Advanced Energy Conversion
Sunovia’s exclusive access and equity ownership of EPIR Technologies, Inc.’s infrared (IR) materials and device structure technologies is paving the way for next-generation solar products. Infrared and solar technologies are very similar, though infrared detection requires a much more precise and complex science. Infrared sensor materials absorb “non-visible” light, convert the light to electricity and then sensor electronics “pixelize” the electricity to create an image, while solar devices absorb “visible” and infrared light, convert the light to electricity and then directly deliver or store the energy. The superior infrared expertise of EPIR is allowing us to transfer infrared technology directly into the development of next-generation solar cells. By combining solar absorbing materials using advanced IR process technologies, we can absorb and convert to electricity a much broader spectrum of the visible light, thus producing an incredibly efficient and cost-effective solar material that can be commercialized into advanced concentrator systems for the commercial, utility and ultimately residential markets.
